Module 4: Digital mindset and becoming digital savvy

OVERVIEW

Our world is constantly changing, and we are in the midst of a huge transformation of our activities. Technology and the internet are increasingly being used in almost everything around us. From carrying out everyday activities  (such as paying bills, interacting with the bank and the state, communication, employment etc.) to less frequent activities (such as buying products, booking tickets etc.). Therefore, it is necessary to acquire a digital mindset and become digital savvy.

It is very important to understand that a digital mindset is not the same as digital savvy. Being digital savvy means that someone has merely acquired certain abilities to use several technologies. Having a digital mindset means that a person has a set of beliefs, attitudes and understanding towards technology. Having a digital mindset and being digital savvy do not carry the same meaning, but they are closely interrelated.

In this module we will try to grasp the essence of these two concepts and explore some facts that can help us become a bit more digital savvy and foster a digital mindset.

Digital mindset refers to an individual’s ability to approach and navigate the digital world with ease, confidence, and adaptability. In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, a digital mindset is crucial for success in many areas of life, including education, employment, and personal relationships. Having a digital mindset means embracing technology and being open to new digital tools and platforms, while also being aware of the potential risks and challenges that exist in the digital world. It also involves developing critical thinking skills, such as the ability to evaluate information and sources online, and being mindful of digital etiquette and responsible use of technology. Developing a digital mindset is essential for anyone who wishes to thrive in the digital age, whether it be in their personal or professional lives.

Having a digital mindset is very important as more and more activities are transformed to and performed online. It might be a fairly new kind of mindset that we should adapt to, but it is not impossible.

Becoming digital savvy involves developing the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to navigate the digital world with ease and confidence. This includes understanding how to use digital tools and platforms effectively and efficiently, as well as knowing how to protect yourself and your information online. Being digital savvy also means staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies, and being able to adapt to new digital challenges and opportunities as they arise.

By becoming digital savvy, you can unlock a wealth of opportunities in the digital world, from online learning and networking to remote work and entrepreneurship.

In the following unit some important elements of digitalization are explored, that can broaden our digital mindset and to become a little more digital savvy.
